Ed Ball is part of RQM+'s regulatory and quality team, primarily responsible for regulatory intelligence at RQM+. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and holds a MSc in Medical Engineering and a BEng in Biomaterials Science and Engineering. He has over 20 years’ experience in the medical devices industry, including seven years with the UK's MHRA.
Ed retains a focus on patient safety and the voice of the user, originating from his time with the MHRA. Ed has maintained that focus during his career through the application of risk management principles and tools, good design control principles, the use of applicable standards and effective quality management methods. Ed's experience encompasses a variety of life-cycle phases, and a wide breadth of medical devices, including but not limited to: active devices, implantable devices, diagnostic devices, measuring devices, sterile devices, and devices used by lay people.
Ed is an active member of ISO and UK standards committees, including those for quality management (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14971), symbols and nomenclature (e.g. ISO 15223), and post-market surveillance (e.g ISO TR 20416).
