Norbert Gerbsch, PhD, Director Public Affairs IGES Institut, Berlin, Germany
Background: Dr. Gerbsch has been working for the IGES Institute since January 2022. Before joining IGES, Dr. Gerbsch worked for three years as Senior Director Innovation & Healthcare Management for a medium-sized pharmaceutical company in Germany. Prior to that, he worked for 13 years at the German Federal Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (BPI e.V.), the last 10 years as Deputy Director General.
In parallel, he was one of the founding managing directors of ACS PharmaProtect GmbH from 2012 to 2019, which develops and operates the German manufacturer database system in the context of the implementation of the EU Anti-Counterfeiting Directive.
Before joining the association, he worked as a senior engineer, managing director of the Biotechnology Center of the Technical University of Berlin and as an authorized signatory, managing representative and managing director in the development of a biotech incubator in the Berlin area.
Dr. Gerbsch holds an engineering degree in biotechnology and a PhD in bioprocess engineering.
Focus of work: Dr. Gerbsch is head of the Public Affairs department of IGES Institut and acts as contact person for issues relating to pharmaceutical market and policy. The Public Affairs department serves as an interface to stakeholders in the healthcare sector and strengthens the dialogue between the Institute and players in the healthcare system.
Dr. Gerbsch is one of the IGES Institute's specialists in drug reimbursement, market access and digitization of health care processes. He has many years of experience in these areas and has supported a large number of private and public sector clients. He is part of the project management team working on the diGItal pilot project which integrates structured electronic patient information leaflets into digital health care processes in Germany.
