Prof. Gilbert teaches and conducts research on regulatory science. His research themes are on the intersection between pharmaceutical regulation and medical device regulation, data sharing and the European Health Data Space and approaches to market approval of adaptive AI enabled and agile digital medical devices; (iii) He has worked in senior MedTech and Digital Heath roles in industry. Prof. Gilbert is in close interaction with the EU and German authorities responsible for drafting laws, and the trade bodies reacting to law. He is just finished a contract as an Expert Consultant to the European Commission on new legislative approaches (publihed with the Commission as a co-authored report) His daily academic work involves study of the landscape of developing EU and German legislation.
